What happens
It starts as a simple deal: he is short on cash and his best friend wants someone to watch the house. Complications follow fast. He gets secretly entangled with his friend’s newly divorced mother, and then with her best friend as well. Caught between the two women, he now has a shrinking window to hide the evidence before his friend returns.
The strengths
Three separate sources of tension is a generous helping for a five-parter: the friendship he is betraying, the pair of women he is torn between and a hard deadline in the form of his friend coming home. The divorce is a small but handy bit of motivation, casting the mother as newly single rather than unfaithful.
The house-sitting frame keeps everything contained, too. It all unfolds in a house that is not his, with his friend liable to come back through the door at any point, a neat formula for suspense. It also hands the story a natural finish line, because a house-sitting gig has to end sometime.

The second woman brings some variety, though the synopsis tells us little about her apart from her friendship with the mom. My Best Friends Mom starts from a well-worn fantasy and adds more moving parts than most: a second woman, a friendship at risk and a deadline.
