The premise in brief
According to Mona, her stepbrother is smug, messy and impossible to put up with. Oddly, she is never far away when he is around, needling him, getting under his skin and teasing him at every opportunity. The synopsis points where you would expect: all that friction is heading toward some kind of release.
It is enemies-to-lovers stripped to the basics. The title’s word for it is obsession, which seems about right for a woman who claims to hate someone she cannot stop pestering.
What it has going for it, and against it
Squabbling rarely gets credit as fuel for a short series, but it works. The characters have something to do right away, and the whole joke lies in the distance between Mona’s words and her actions. She also steers the story herself, so she is a livelier lead than the passive ones found in some step-sibling series.
The drawback: few setups on Candy are more familiar. Plenty of series carry the Sister tag, and a good number begin with a stepsister who is irritated, intrigued or a mix of the two. The synopsis hints at no twist, no rival and no secret, which leaves the quality of the banter to make or break it.
