Where the story starts
Solene Yoon does not get a vote. She is placed in the care of a bodyguard, a former soldier with an icy manner and a job to do, and feelings that neither should entertain begin to take root. Two obstacles block the way: his contract expressly rules out anything physical, and her father keeps watching the pair of them at all times. Candy’s synopsis stops there.
A bodyguard romance played straight
Stories about a protector and the person he protects make up a well-worn genre, and this series embraces it unapologetically. The rules are the draw. A professional barred from crossing a line, a client who might want him to, and a vigilant father hovering in the background add up to a slow-burn shape with tension built in.
- Obstacles you can name. Contract and father are two distinct barriers, more scaffolding than most five-parters bother to put up.
- Leads who contrast. An icy, disciplined guard opposite a glamorous young woman is a pairing anyone grasps instantly.
- A familiar route. If you know the trope you can predict the ending, and nothing in the synopsis hints at a twist to upset it.
A note on the title, too. The “daddy’s watchdog” is simply the bodyguard her father hired, nothing more literal than that, and the phrase makes clear that having her father around is half of what makes it forbidden.
