The setup
At the eleventh hour, Nina’s husband pulls out of the dinner they had arranged. Her evening out turns into a quiet night in the house, and the only other person there is his grown son. Candy’s synopsis leaves no doubt about how she takes it: sulking is off the table, and getting even is very much on it.
There is nothing more to the premise than that, and Candy’s catalogue, heavy on stepfamily stories, already has plenty like it. The motive is what sets this one apart a little. Nina is less lonely or bored than furious, so everything that comes next is framed as retaliation against a husband who is not even there to see it.
What it gets right, and what it lacks
- An obvious spark. Being stood up is a minor, familiar insult, and it pushes Nina to act that very night instead of after a long buildup. In a series of only five episodes, moving that fast helps.
- Payback drives it. Spite has more bite than plain temptation, and it leaves Nina clearly running the show.
- Little else on offer. The synopsis promises no rival, no twist and no change of scene. Viewers who want plot get a single idea, pursued without detours.
